Editor's review
This is a visual editor for audio tracks. Applying different effect and filters is possible. The application records sound from any source and convert an audio file from one format to another.
Pros: A very rich set of effects, delay effects and various filters lets one experiment very extensively to achieve the desired effect. As you load a track, it is shown as a visual display against time scale. Mark up the specific area you need to apply the effect, choose the effect/filter to be applied. The program then calculated the new spectrum and visual indication clearly shows when the calculations are over. Simply play the track to understand the effect.
Essential pre-processing like equalizing the channels, adjusting gain etc are provided too. Simple recorder like controls makes recording/playing a track quite easy.Stop); Support file include biggest utility of the package comes from the conversion of audio from one format to another. The range of format supported is very extensive. I can’t think of any format that’s been missed out. The formats include; Wav,Mp3, Mp2, Wma, Mpg, mpeg, Ogg, Vox, Raw, Pcm, au, aiff, ra, AAC, Amr, MMF, Avi, Wmv, Asf, Mov, Qt, Mp4, 3gp, 3g2, dat, vob, rm, rmvb, psp, g721, g726, g723, flac, mpc.
Cons: The way the effects and the filters work is you submit the region of interest, the software calculates the effect and updates the visual display. Only then you could play the track and find out how exactly the effect sounds. This is a little time consuming affair. What would be nice if one could see the effects of applying the rich range of effects, filters and delays in real time. Something like in a mixer one would slide a control and the effect would be audible in real time. I realize that would take a lot of horsepower under the hood but would definitely add value. Corresponding sliding controls also would be a welcome addition to the package.
Easy to use and a nice word editor like arrangements of menus and controls emphasizes the editor metaphor. A definite 4 star material.
Power Sound Editor Free comes with a detailed tutorial, and since it packs in so many features, you just might need it. This app gives you the ability to invert part of a file, add silence and fade-outs, stretch time, and mix tracks. You`ll also find a buffet of effects such as delay, compression, flange, and reverb. After you make your changes, the program lets you preview before you save them. Due to this program`s powerful and extensive set of editing tools, we think audio editors, DJs, and musicians will find a lot to like, though beginners might need something with fewer options
